Desert Residential Unit
This residence is a modern interpretation of the vernacular courtyard architecture. It was designed for 5 family members consisting of a father, mother, and 3 childrens. The functional spaces needed by this family are an official combined with studio, gallery, and a living space.Traditionally in this climate designers arranged cubic rooms agancent with common walls to maximize heating and cooling. The tradition design is mere sustainable. Modern families demand a balance of sustainability and creativity.In order to follow the function 3 cubic volume are chosen as the basis for the design, and then by Subtracting cubic areas from the original cube small design elements, such as gardens, natural lightening, and ventilation are created.
The small gardens represent four main elements of the nature: fire, water, soil, and wind; for example, one garden is in an entry way to the main yard with mosaic walk over a shallow pool of water, this area of course represent the element of water the other three gardens are representative of wind fine and soil.
